Nigeria’s Supersand Eagles fail to qualify for 2024 Beach Soccer Nations cup

The Supersand Eagles of Nigeria have been edged out by Mauritania in the race to qualify for the 2024 Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations, set to be hosted by Egypt.

Despite a valiant effort, Nigeria’s bid for a spot in the continental tournament fell short as Mauritania advanced on aggregate.

In the second-leg match held at the Murtala Muhammed Square in Kaduna, the Supersand Eagles, coached by Abdullahi Isa, faced a challenging game. Nigeria’s squad showed resilience, coming from behind multiple times during the match.

Mauritania’s goalkeeper made an early impact by scoring the opening goal. However, Nigeria’s Taiwo Adams managed to level the score, making it 1-1 by halftime. The second half saw Mauritania regain the lead, but Nigeria’s Abdullahi Hassan equalized with a stunning free kick, bringing the score to 2-2.

Despite their efforts, Nigeria’s defense could not withstand the relentless pressure from Mauritania. The visitors scored again, and the match ended with Mauritania securing their place in the Beach Soccer Africa Cup of Nations.

The final quarter of the game saw a flurry of goals, with Mauritania overturning their first-leg deficit to clinch the aggregate victory.

For Nigeria, this marks a disappointing end to their return from a four-year Beach Soccer hiatus. The Supersand Eagles, who have previously won the African championship twice, will now look forward to regrouping and preparing for future competitions, with hopes of a stronger performance next time.
