Nigeria’s U-18 and U-20 handball stars shine in IHF trophy Africa Zone 3 tournament

In a display of skill and determination, Nigeria’s young handball talents emerged victorious at the IHF Trophy Africa Zone 3 tournament held in Accra, Ghana.

The U-18 men’s team clinched the title, while their senior counterparts, the U-20 team, secured a podium finish, bringing pride to the nation.

Led by head coach Emeka Nnamani, Nigeria’s U-18 team showcased their prowess on the court, dominating regional rivals Ghana in a thrilling encounter.

Despite a spirited effort from the Ghanaian side, Nigeria’s athleticism, aggression, and clinical finishing secured a decisive 33-25 victory, defending their Zone 3 title and earning qualification to the Continental Phase of the IHF Trophy.

In parallel, Nigeria’s U-20 team delivered a commendable performance, claiming bronze medals after defeating Benin with a commanding 42-28 victory in Lagos.

While Ghana’s U-20 team made history by clinching gold and securing their spot in the Continental Phase for the first time, Nigeria’s strong showing underscores the rapid growth of handball in Anglophone West Africa.

With both Nigeria and Ghana advancing to the next phase, the spotlight now turns to the continent’s top handballing talent as they prepare to face off in the upcoming matches.
