Nigeria’s U-18 Women’s Handball team to IHF World Cup unveiled

Coach Shittu Adewunmi Agboola of Nigeria’s Under-18 Women’s Handball team has announced an 18-player roster for the upcoming IHF Women’s U18 World Championship in China.

The 2024 IHF Women’s U18 Handball World Championship is set to take place in Chuzhou, China, from August 14 to 25. Nigeria will represent Africa as one of the continent’s four qualifiers, a historic first for the team achieved at last year’s Africa Women’s Under-18 Handball Nations Cup in Monastir, Tunisia.

The team has been recognized as one of the most promising squads globally, following their impressive second-place finish in the IHF Trophy series.

Returning to the team are captains Esther Mathew and Taiwo Babatunde, along with Taiwo’s twin sister. Also included are the Munira sisters from Rima Queens of Sokoto and Oparaugo Amarachi from Imo Grasshoppers. The Samuel sisters and Damilola Akinlade from Rivers Queens are among the selected players.
