Nigeria’s William Troost-Ekong speaks about potential move to play with Cristiano Ronaldo In Saudi Arabia
Nigeria’s national team defender and AFCON 2023 stand-in captain, William Troost-Ekong, has expressed his openness to the possibility of joining the Saudi Pro League where Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo currently plays.
Troost-Ekong, who was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) at the recently concluded 2023 AFCON tournament, has reportedly attracted interest from clubs in the Pro League, including Al Ittihad and Al Nassr.
The former Watford defender scored three goals and was fantastic in defence for Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the tournament to be named as 2023 AFCON MVP despite losing the final match to Cote d’Ivoire on February 11.
Currently playing for Greek side PAOK, the 30-year-old centre-back revealed his willingness to consider a move to the Middle East.
In an interview with Amanda Davies on CNN World Sports, Troost-Ekong said of a potential move to Saudi Arabia: “I can’t tell you that now because it’s not right in front of me,”
“The Saudi League is something which is exciting, you saw quite a lot of the best players who were part of the AFCON have headed in that direction and are playing there.
“If that option is in front of me, then, I will have to study it a bit more and consider it
When asked about the prospect of playing alongside Portuguese superstar Cristiano Ronaldo if he joins Al Nassr, Troost-Ekong expressed his admiration for CR7, stating, “Who wouldn’t? One of the best players in the world. We’ll have to see what happens but I’m happy at PAOK.”
