Nigeria’s Yellow Greens shine in T20 World Cup Qualifier opener
Nigeria’s national cricket team, the Yellow Greens, began their ICC T20 World Cup Sub-Regional Qualifier C campaign with a dominant performance against St. Helena.
In their opening match, Nigeria scored an impressive 185/2 in 20 overs. St. Helena struggled to respond and were bowled out for just 67 runs, giving the Yellow Greens a massive victory.
As the highest-ranked team in the qualifiers, Nigeria are considered favourites to win the tournament. The team is confident and focused on not only qualifying for the next round but also finishing as champions.
“Our goal is not just to qualify but to win the tournament and prepare for the next round as champions,” said coach Steve Tikolo before the competition began.

- Sierra Leone secured a stunning 168-run win over Ivory Coast, scoring 188/2 and dismissing their opponents for just 20 runs in 10.4 overs.

The Yellow Greens will face Eswatini, Sierra Leone, and Botswana in the coming days. The top two teams from this sub-regional qualifier will progress to the final round, where they will compete for a spot in the 2026 ICC T20 World Cup alongside South Africa.
