Nigeria’s Yemi Alade to perform at AFCON opening ceremony
Nigerian singer Yemi Alade will perform at the opening ceremony of the highly anticipated 2023 Africa Cup of Nations. SportsRation reports.
The talented female artist announced her booking for the event in Abidjan via a social media post where she expressed her joy and gratitude for the incredible opportunity.
Alade emphasized the importance of prayer towards the manifestation of her long-held aspiration of performing at a stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by dancers and spectators since, one she has dreamt of since 2016.
Seven years later, her dream is set to become a reality as she prepares to grace the AFCON opening ceremony stage.
She conveyed her honor and excitement about the upcoming performance, stating, “Since 2016, I have envisioned performing at the stadium for football ceremonies surrounded by hundreds of dancers and people.
“7 years later, I’m performing at AFCON.
“It is indeed an honor and a dream come true. It’s just the beginning.”
Yemi Alade, known for her versatility and commanding stage presence, rose to prominence with the release of her hit single “Johnny” in 2014.
Her musical prowess spans multiple languages, including French, Yoruba, and English. The artist has earned accolades such as the MTV Africa Music Awards (MAMAs) for Best Female in 2015 and 2016, solidifying her status as one of the top female musicians in Nigeria and across the continent.
The opening ceremony of the 34th Africa Cup of Nations tournament will take place on Saturday, January 13, 2024 at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.
Alade and other invited artists will thrill the crowd before Cote d’Ivoire and Guinea Bissau take the stage for the opening game.
