Nketiah scores late winner as Crystal Palace beat Liverpool

Eddie Nketiah scored deep into stoppage time to give Crystal Palace a dramatic 2-1 win over Liverpool at Selhurst Park, ending the Premier League leaders’ five-match winning run.

Ismaila Sarr gave Palace the lead in the ninth minute, bundling the ball in after Liverpool failed to clear a corner. Palace dominated the first half, creating several chances, but were denied by goalkeeper Alisson and the woodwork. Jean-Philippe Mateta also struck the post after a fine move.

Liverpool improved after the break. Dean Henderson made a brilliant save from Ryan Gravenberch, pushing his shot onto the post, before stopping Florian Wirtz at close range. Record signing Alexander Isak, on his full league debut, also missed a clear chance when he shot wide.

The Reds looked to have snatched a point when substitute Federico Chiesa equalised in the 87th minute, finishing from close range after a VAR check confirmed Ryan Gravenberch was onside in the build-up.

But Palace had the final word. In the seventh minute of added time, Nketiah struck at the far post to seal a deserved victory.

The win lifts Palace to second in the table and extends their unbeaten run in all competitions to 18 matches. Liverpool, meanwhile, were left frustrated after a poor display and now see their winning start to the season come to an end.
