NNL: Sports Commissioner Praises Akwa Ibom Teams, Expresses Concern Over Dakkada Situation

Akwa Ibom State Commissioner for Sports, Elder Paul Bassey, has praised the state’s representatives in the 2025–26 Nigeria National League (NNL) for their strong start to the new season. He urged them to maintain their focus and build on their early momentum.

The commissioner gave the commendation after watching Akwa United defeat Solution FC of Anambra 2–0 on Matchday 1 in Uyo. Earlier on Saturday, 15 November, he also witnessed Godswill Akpabio United record an emphatic 5–1 win over First Bank FC of Lagos at the Uyo Township Stadium.

Elder Bassey congratulated both teams and encouraged them to remain committed and professional in their approach throughout the campaign. He added that gaining promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) would bring great pride to the state.

“I am delighted with the results from our teams. We are proud to see them begin the season with victories. They have shown the character, spirit, and determination that define the Akwa Ibom person,” he said.

“The NNL is a tough and unpredictable league, so starting well is important. Both teams are in Southern Conference B, and it would be wonderful to see one of them reach the Premier League next season. With continued support from our fans, I believe they can achieve positive results.”

He also urged Akwa United and Godswill Akpabio United to reflect the positive values of Governor Umo Eno’s Arise Agenda, which encourages excellence and hard work across the state.

In another development, Elder Bassey met with players of Dakkada FC to discuss the club owner’s decision to withdraw from the league. He said the information available to him supports the reasons behind the decision, but assured that stakeholders are making serious efforts to salvage the situation. He cautioned against actions and statements capable of worsening the crisis.
