Massimo Donati, a former Atalanta player, says that Ademola Lookman’s biggest strength is his awareness of his own abilities. Donati believes that since Lookman understands his strengths, he has become unstoppable.
Lookman joined Atalanta in 2022 from RB Leipzig for just under €10 million after struggling in England and Germany. Since arriving in Italy, Lookman has been excellent, winning Atalanta’s Player of the Season award twice in a row.
Lookman also helped Atalanta win the Europa League, scoring a brilliant hat-trick in the final against Bayer Leverkusen. His great form has continued into the 2024/25 season, where Atalanta is currently at the top of Serie A.
Lookman was recently named Africa’s Footballer of the Year. Donati praised his development, saying, “Lookman is an incredible player. The biggest improvement he’s made is realizing his strengths. Once you realize that, nobody can stop you.”
Lookman is expected to be on the bench when Atalanta faces Cesena in the Coppa Italia Round of 16 today.
Lookman’s Africa Player of the Year Win Sparks Protests in Morocco
Ademola Lookman’s win as Africa’s Player of the Year has caused anger among Moroccan fans, who wanted their star Achraf Hakimi to win instead.
Lookman was named the winner by CAF President Patrice Motsepe in Marrakesh, beating Hakimi to the award. Fans who supported Hakimi gathered outside the ceremony in protest, chanting his name and accusing CAF of favoritism. Some reports say the protests became so heated that security had to step in and Motsepe had to leave through a back door.
Despite the protests, Lookman’s award reflects his impressive year. He scored three goals in the Africa Cup of Nations and helped Nigeria win a silver medal. Lookman’s success cements his place as one of Africa’s top footballers. He is only the sixth Nigerian to win the Player of the Year award, joining legends like Rashidi Yekini, Emmanuel Amunike, and Victor Osimhen
