Nottingham Forest Hand Trials to Three Nigerian Players Linked to Taiwo Awoniyi
Nottingham Forest, who currently sit fourth in the English Premier League with 60 points, have offered trials to three Nigerian footballers with close links to Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi.
The players – Olamide Sunday Olasehinde (left winger), Sulyman Kehinde Quadri (central defender), and Sanni Sukanmi Adebayo (midfielder) – all play for Unicorns Football Club of Ilorin and are in the UK for a two-week trial with Forest.
Unicorns FC CEO, Victor Awoniyi, expressed his excitement about the trials and described the opportunity as a big step in showcasing Nigeria’s rich football talent.
“This is a great chance for the boys, and we hope to keep giving young players in Nigeria the platform to shine,” he said.
The trial is part of a wider effort by Unicorns FC to promote young talents abroad. The club has successfully helped at least nine players secure opportunities outside Nigeria in the past year.
The club’s secretary, Suleiman Atunrase, travelled with the players to the UK to support them and ensure they stay focused during the trials.
Taiwo Awoniyi, who is proud of the initiative, said that playing for Nigeria at the U15 and U17 World Cups was a key moment in his own journey as a footballer. He noted that many young talents in Nigeria do not always get the same chance.
“With the huge number of talented players in Nigeria, making it into the national team is not easy,” Awoniyi said.
“By creating chances like this, we are not just helping them show their skills but also making their dreams come true.”
He added that giving young players a platform to grow and develop is very important in building the next generation of stars.
“It’s a blessing to be involved in helping young talents pursue their goals,” Awoniyi said.
He also revealed that plans are in place to send more Nigerian players to clubs across Europe in the near future.
