Nottingham Forest Manager Gives Taiwo Awoniyi Update that will Interest Nigerians ahead of World Cup qualifiers

Nottingham Forest Manager, Steve Copper has provided Taiwo Awoniyi injury update that will interest Nigerians ahead of the World Cup qualifiers in November.

Awoniyi, missed Nigeria’s International Friendly games vs Saudi Arabia and Mozambique with Injury.

The Super Eagles will begin their journey to the 2026 FIFA World Cup with games vs Lesotho and Zimbabwe in November, reason Nigerians will be excited following Copper’s update.

” Taiwo is progressing well. He’s not far off some training, so let’s see how the next week goes, going into the game after Saturday,” The Nottingham Forest Manager was quoted by nottinghampost.com.

The Nigerian striker has scored three goals in seven Premier League appearances for the Tricky Trees this season with another goal to his name during Nigeria’s 6-0 spanking of Sao Tome and Principe in September, 2023.

The Nigeria international sustained injury in Nottingham Forest’s 0-0 draw at Brentford earlier this month and so sat out of the draw at Crystal Palace just before the International break.

As it stands, the former Union Berlin man who finished as the club’s top scorer last season with 10 goals from 26 outings, will miss this weekend’s Premier League clash vs Luton Town FC.

Awoniyi’s international teammate, Ola Aina is also injured and unavailable for selection.

Nottingham Forest will welcome Luton Town to the City Ground on Saturday, October 21.

For Super Eagles Head Coach, Jose Peseiro, despite not being short of options in attack, having a fit Taiwo Awoniyi available for the upcoming World Cup qualifiers will be an extra boost even as he prepares for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations tournament in Ivory Coast.
