NPFL 2020/21 Matchday 2 recap: Rivers, Remo win big as Enyimba win at Rangers
Andy Okpe and Rafiu Ishaq top scorers after matchday 2
Newcomers Remo United continued their impressive run of form as they made it two from two with a 3-0 win against Heartland in their second game of the season.
Rivers United also secured a big 3-0 win against Katsina United while the Finidi George’s Enyimba secured a tough 1-0 win against Rangers in Enugu.
Here is the recap of all that went down on the Nigeria Professional Football League matchday 2 across federation.
1. Rangers 0-1 Enyimba
The People’s Elephant continued their great form winning their second game under the tutelage of Finidi George.
Emeka Obioma 88th minutes strike settled the clash at Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium.
2. Abia Warriors 1-0 Sunshine Stars
Following their 2-1 loss to Enyimba in their first game, Abia Warriors bounced back in game two securing a 1-0 win against Sunshine Stars on Sunday.
Paul Samson’s 28th minutes strike gave Abia Warriors the maximum points and win against Sunshine Stars at the Umuahia Township Stadium.
3. Rivers 3-0 Katsina United
Rafiu Ishaq Kayode continued from where he stopped on matchday one to lead Rivers United to a 3-0 win against Katsina United on matchday two.
Rafiu Ishaq Kayode scored a brace in the 28th, 57th minutes before Chijioke Akuneto added the third in 62nd minutes as Rivers United secured a 3-0 win against Katsina at the Liberation Stadium.
Rafiu now has three goals from two games and Rivers 4 points from two games.
4. Dakkada 2-0 MFM FC
Aniekan Ekpe goal from the spot in the 45th minute and Musa Bashiru 84th minutes strike gave Dakkada a 2-0 win against MFM at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Sunday.
Dakkada completed the game with 10-man after Solomon Kantoma got his sent off late on for a second booking offence.
MFM FC continued their poor form with their second defeat in two games.
5. Plateau United 1-0 Kwara United
Muhammad Zulkifilu 5th minutes strike was all that Plateau United needed at the Rwang Pam Stadium to beat Kwara United on Sunday.
6. Wikki 1-0 Tornadoes
Abdullateef Balogun 40th minutes strike settled the clash at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium as Wikki Tourist pipped Niger Tornadoes 1-0.
7. Nasarawa United 1-1 Gombe United
Yusuf Abdulazeez scored late for Gombe United to deny Nasarawa United the win at Lafia Township Stadium.
Abdullahi Abubakar 48th minutes strike looked good enough but Yusuf Abdulazeez goal cancelled his strike as both teams settled for a draw.
8. 3SC 1-1 Akwa United
Ayo Adejubu sent Ibadan crowd into frenzy after his late goal earned 3SC a 1-1 draw against Akwa United at Lekan-Salami-Stadium.
Utibe Archibong scored Akwa United goal in the 29th minute of the game.
9. Remo Stars 3-0 Heartland
Andy Okpe continued his good form as he added two goals to the one he scored in the first game against MFM FC.
Andy Okpe scored in the 4th, 5th minutes while Samuel Anakwe added the third in the 71st minute to hand the newcomers a 3-0 win against Heartland.
10. Kano Pillars 0-0 Lobi Stars
No single chance was created by Kano Pillars in the barren draw.
