NPFL: Akwa United win, 3SC and Rivers United share spoils
The Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) week 27 match between title contenders 3SC and Rivers United ended in a 0-0 draw at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan yesterday. Neither team was able to score, and the game finished without a winner.
As a result, the top three positions in the league remained the same. Before the match, Rivers United were in second place, followed by 3SC in third, while Remo Stars, who won 1-0 against Plateau United on Sunday, remained in first place with a 12-point lead.
Both Rivers United and 3SC now have 42 points, but Rivers United are in second place due to a better goal difference (+6) compared to 3SC’s +5.
In other week 27 matches, Lobi Stars’ relegation concerns worsened as they were beaten 1-0 by El-Kanemi Warriors in Maiduguri. After a goalless first half, Jacob Jonathan scored the only goal of the match in the 52nd minute, securing El-Kanemi’s 10th win of the season.
Lobi Stars are currently at the bottom of the table with 23 points from 81 possible.
Meanwhile, Katsina United lost 1-0 to Akwa United, with Uche Sabastine scoring the only goal of the match in the 20th minute. Akwa United, who are also struggling with relegation, now have 27 points and are second from bottom.
