NPFL: Akwa Utd Set To Extend Winning Run, Plot Wikki Tourist Downfall

Following a superb run of four wins in four games and a sensational leap from 16th to 5th position on the NPFL table, Akwa United will be full of confidence of extending their winning streak on Match-day 13 when they play host to Wikki Tourists of Bauchi on Wednesday afternoon at the Godswill Akpabio international stadium.

After a slow and disastrous start to the season, the Promise Keepers recovered nicely with four straight victories – two home and two away – against Dakkada FC, Rivers United, Lobi Star and Jigawa Golden Stars inspired by the superlative form of red-hot striker Akarandut Orok who has scored in each of those four games.

The team has had two training sessions on Monday evening and Tuesday morning since their return from Kano, and all the players who were sidelined by injuries – Mfon Udoh, Sampson Gbadebo and Itodo Akor have fully recovered and were part of the training sessions.

Coach Kennedy Boboye may suffer selection headache ahead of the game although he may likely stick with the bulk of the team that prosecuted the last four matches.

United have won 3 and drew 3 of their 6 home matches so far this season. Judging by their performances in the last four games, coach Boboye’s men will be going for a kill on Wednesday against 10th placed Wikki Tourists.

In their previous 15 meetings, Akwa United have won 7, drew 3 and lost 5 against their Match-day 13 opponents. Three points separates Akwa United and Wikki Tourists on the log and victory for the Promise keepers will move them into the top three.

The Promise Keepers will be aiming to continue their unbeaten home run against a team who are without a win in their six previous visits to Uyo.
