NPFL matchday 30 fixtures rescheduled amidst internal wrangling
The board of the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, has rescheduled the Match Day 30 fixtures billed to be held this weekend across the country.
This was contained in a memo addressed to the clubs by the Chief Operating Officer of the league, Davidson Owumi.
The decision to reschedule the matches comes amidst reports of internal wrangling among club owners over financial issues.
According to Prime Sports reporter Mmenyeneabasi Akpan via his Facebook handle, the Nigeria Premier Football League club owners are leading the boycott of the NPFL Matchday 30 this weekend.
Their grievances stems from the NPFL board lack of transparency in the 5.03 billion five year broadcasting deal they signed with Startimes.
They are insisting on seeing the contract paper before playing Matchday 30, the NPFL board are also playing hardball after series of meetings yesterday.
Majority of the Club owners feel shortchanged by the league body as they’ve only received 10 million Naira this season from the league board.
Some key leaders of the Club owners are thorn between this boycott because of their loyalties to the Nigeria Football Federation.
The new dates for the rescheduled matches are as follows:
Rangers International vs Abia Warriors – Sunday, 14th April 2024
Enyimba FC vs Heartland FC – Sunday, 14th April 2024
Sporting Lagos vs Sunshine Stars – Tuesday, 16th April 2024
Doma United vs Remo Stars – Tuesday, 16th April 2024
Gombe United vs Kwara United – Tuesday, 16th April 2024
Bendel Insurance vs Kano Pillars – Tuesday, 16th April 2024
Bayelsa United vs Katsina United – Tuesday, 16th April 2024
Shooting Stars vs Lobi Stars – Tuesday, 16th April 2024
Akwa United vs Niger Tornadoes – 16th April 2024
Rivers United vs Plateau United – Tuesday, 16th April 2024.
