NPFL Matchday Three Preview

On Saturday January 9th, the third Matchday of the 2020/21 NPFL season will kick off with a number of tantalising fixtures, including a big derby.

In Saturday’s lone fixture, Akwa United will look to improve on their dismal start to the season when they play host to Abia Warriors at the Nest of Champions in Uyo. Both teams start the Matchweek in the bottom half of the table, with Akwa having picked up one point from their two games, and Warriors with no points after losing both games.

Enyimba will look to put the disappointment of their CAF Champions League knockout behind them when they host Wikki Tourist in Aba. Wikki have started the season rather poorly with just one point from two games.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah will welcome one of the early high flyers, Dakkada FC to their Nnewi home where they will try to bounce back from their defeat last time out.

Rangers International will visit Jigawa Golden Stars at their adopted home, and try to recreate their result from last week by securing another victory. The Golden Stars also lost last week and will be looking for a response.

Katsina United play host to fellow northern side, Adamawa United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. Both teams lost their last fixtures and will be looking to bounce back.

Lobi Stars and Warri Wolves will do battle at the Aper Aku stadium in Makurdi, after both teams won in the last round of matches.

In the Southwest derby, MFM take on the Akure Gunners, Sunshine Stars at the Soccer Temple in Agege. The Olukoya boys lost their last game at Makurdi, and will be looking to get a better result.

Log leaders, Nasarawa United play host to third placed Kano Pillars in a tantalising encounter at the Lafia Township Stadium. Both teams are undefeated in the league this season.

Two troubled teams, Plateau United and Heartland face off in Jos in what could be a turning point for either of them this season. Plateau have picked up just one point and Heartland, none.

Second placed Rivers United host Kwara United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. Rivers won both their games, and Kwara United also have won the only game they played this season.
