NPFL Matchday Two Round-Up; 3rd January 2021
Sunday, January 3rd 2021 saw 7 of the Matchday Two fixtures completed across different venues in the country. Katsina United played host to Kano Pillars, Dakkada FC were at home to Jigawa Golden Stars, FC Ifeanyi Ubah visited Akure, where they took on the Sunshine Stars, Heartland’s Naze Millionaires entertained Nasarawa United, Lobi Stars were home against MFM FC, Warri Wolves hosted Adamawa United, and Rangers played host to Akwa United.
Katsina United were in high spirits after their Matchday One triumph away at Heartland, but they were stunned when the boys from Kano defeated them 2-0 at their backyard. Legendary midfielder, Rabiu Ali, scored his second goal of the season, and his 88th in the NPFL, after forward, David Ebuka, had given them an early lead in the 9th minute.
Dakkada picked up their first win of the season at the second time of asking with goals from Aniekan Ekpe and Solomon Chigozie gave them a 2-1 win over Jigawa Golden Stars, who got a goal through Mohammed Abubakar.
Sunshine Stars picked up their first 3 points by beating Ifeanyi Ubah thanks to an early goal by Muyiwa Ogunniyi.
Nasarawa United beat Heartland away from home, securing a 2-1 win thanks to goals from Chinedu Ohanachom and Adamu Hassan. Heartland’s Shedrack Oghali got the goal for his team.
Lobi Stars won 1-0 against MFM in Makurdi, with Martins Ossy getting the winner in the 71st minute of the game.
Warri Wolves bounced back from their disappointing Matchday One performance to beat Adamawa United 1-0 thanks to a solo effort by Uche Ihuarulam in the 83rd minute.
Rangers International got their first win, thanks to Israel Abia’s lone strike against Akwa United at home for their first win against Akwa United in 5 attempts.
Heartland are bottom of the log, after losing both their games so far. Nasarawa United and Rivers United are the only teams to have won both games so far this season.
