NPFL week four summary: More surprises

Week Four of the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) saw plenty of drama, goals, and surprises. A total of 22 goals were scored across 10 fixtures, with five home wins, two away wins, and three draws.

Ikorodu City 1-2 Nasarawa United
Nasarawa United claimed an impressive 2-1 victory over Ikorodu City in Lagos. The visitors snatched all three points, condemning Ikorodu to another home loss as they continue to struggle in their debut NPFL season.

Akwa United 1-2 Sunshine Stars
Sunshine Stars secured an important away win in Uyo, defeating Akwa United 2-1. Akwa United’s home form took a further hit as Sunshine Stars left with maximum points.

El Kanemi Warriors 2-2 Plateau United
El Kanemi Warriors fought back from two goals down to hold Plateau United to a 2-2 draw. Plateau United had a commanding lead but were unable to hold on as El Kanemi struck twice in the second half to earn a point.

Niger Tornadoes 1-1 Bendel Insurance
Despite being reduced to ten men, Niger Tornadoes managed to hold on for a 1-1 draw against Bendel Insurance. Tornadoes remain without a home win this season but have shown resilience, having already won twice away.

Rivers United 2-0 Enyimba
Coach Finidi George’s Rivers United continued their unbeaten start to the season, defeating his former club Enyimba 2-0 in Port Harcourt. Rivers United’s strong display sees them move up the standings as they continue their pursuit of the title.

Abia Warriors 2-0 Kano Pillars
Abia Warriors secured a convincing 2-0 victory at home against Kano Pillars. The result piles more pressure on Pillars, who have struggled to find consistency in the opening weeks of the season.

Bayelsa United 1-1 Kwara United
Bayelsa United fought back to earn a 1-1 draw at home against Kwara United. Akanni Akeem gave Kwara United the lead, but Yahaya Ibrahim of Bayelsa equalized to share the spoils in Yenagoa.

Katsina United 3-0 Lobi Stars
Katsina United ran riot at home, defeating Lobi Stars 3-0. The comprehensive win sees Katsina climb up the table as they look to launch a good run of form.

Remo Stars 2-1 Enugu Rangers
Remo Stars continued their excellent start to the season with a 2-1 victory over reigning champions Rangers International. The win in Ikenne keeps Remo Stars among the top teams as they challenge for honours.

Shooting Stars 1-0 Heartland
Shooting Stars edged past a struggling Heartland side with a narrow 1-0 victory. Heartland coach Emmanuel Amuneke has found it difficult to secure points with his young squad, as they remain at the bottom of the table.

Nsikakabasi Praises Referees for Fair Officiating

SportsRation correspondent Nsikakabasi Akpan hailed the NPFL referees for their fair officiating in week four, stating, “The referees were excellent across all matches. Their decisions were fair and balanced, allowing the games to flow smoothly. It’s great to see such professionalism in the NPFL.”
