NPFL23 : Bayelsa United hold Rivers United in Derby clash
Kwara United claim comeback win over El-Kanemi Warriors
Following their continental exertions, Rivers United returned to action in the NPFL23 as they took on Bayelsa United at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa in their first South-South Derby. The sides played out an entertaining 2-2 draw following late drama in the encounter.
Rivers United took the lead through Chiamaka Madu after 35 minutes before Daniel Ekpo equalised for the home side six minutes into the second half. Malachi Ohawume followed up his goal against ASEC Mimosas with another in the 66th minute to restore their advantage, but the in-form Robert Mizo stepped up with a 90th minute equaliser for Bayelsa United, taking his tally to six for the season.
In Maiduguri, Kwara United moved out of the relegation zone after a comeback win over El-Kanemi Warriors in their NPFL23 Matchday Nine clash. The Afonja Warriors ended a three-game winless run in the league.
David Nnaji gave the home side the lead after 20 minutes with his first goal of the season before Jide Fatokun drew Kwara United level in the 61st minute. The Afonja Warriors sealed their win in the 72nd minute as Godwin Oshagbemi found the net for the first time this season.
