NPFL23 Matchday 16: Bendel Insurance book Super Six slot as Enyimba, Remo Stars secure huge wins

Bayelsa United stay alive as Rangers, Abia Warriors win

Bendel Insurance became the first team to reach the Super Six of the NPFL23 season after holding Gombe United to a goalless draw in their Matchday 16 clash at the Pantami Stadium. The Benin Arsenal created a new NPFL unbeaten record of 16 games and are through to the showpiece event with two games to spare in the league season.

Enyimba picked up a vital three points away from home in Maiduguri as they defeated ElKanemi Warriors 1-0. The People’s Elephant got the points after a goal from top scorer Chukwuemeka Obioma to move up to second place in Group A.

Remo Stars leapfrogged Akwa United into third place in Group A after a 1-0 win saw them record their first-ever top flight win against the Promise Keepers. A penalty from Remo Stars captain Junior Nduka in first half stoppage time was all they needed to secure maximum points from the clash.

Bayelsa United continued fighting for their survival with a 2-1 win over Sunshine Stars in Yenagoa. Edwin Ayiba gave the hosts the lead before Achi Nnaemeka equalised for Sunshine Stars. A late goal from Gomo Onduku secured a massive win for the Prosperity Boys.

Abia Warriors left Dakkada FC on the brink of relegation after a 3-0 win in Umuahia. Sunday Megwo opened the scoring for the Umuahia Landlords before Bello Lukman added a late brace to secure the points. Dakkada must now win both of their remaining matches and hope for a miracle to survive the drop.

Lobi Stars returned to winning ways as they secured a 1-0 win over Niger Tornadoes in Jos. Francis Odinaka scored the only goal to give the Group B leaders maximum points from the clash.

Rangers handed Wikki Tourist a three-nil bashing in Awka thanks to a brace from Chidiebere Nwobodo and a goal from Samuel Pam.

Kwara United and Plateau United played out a 1-1 draw in their NPFL23 Matchday 16 meeting in Akure. Issa Gata gave the Afonja Warriors the lead before the visitors found an equaliser in the second half to salvage a point.
