ElKanemi Warriors, Niger Tornadoes win as champions held to draw
Bendel Insurance followed up their NPFL23 Matchday One win over Akwa United with a 2-1 win over Plateau United at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin. Sarki Ismael opened the scoring for the Benin Arsenal after 53 minutes before Christopher Nwaeze equalised for the Peace Boys with a penalty in the 89th minute. Imade Oserenkhoe headed home a winner for the home side in the 93rd minute to hand them a win at home.
Remo Stars claimed a brilliant 1-0 win away to Gombe United to win their second game of the season. The Sky Blue Stars left it late, with striker Andy Okpe scoring in the 90th minute to hand his side all three points at the Pantami Stadium.
Niger Tornadoes picked up their second win of the season as they squeezed past newly-promoted Doma United 1-0 in their NPFL23 Matchday Two encounter. Munir Idris scored the game’s only goal after eight minutes to give his side all three points.
Rivers United were held to a 1-1 draw by Sunshine Stars at the Ondo State Sports Complex. The champions went ahead in the 23rd minute following an unfortunate own goal before Ejike Uzoechi restored parity with an 89th-minute penalty to give the home side a share of the spoils.
Newly-promoted ElKanemi Warriors bounced back from their NPFL23 Matchday One defeat to Remo Stars to claim a 2-1 win over visiting Nasarawa United. Alfa Igbudu opened the scoring for his side after only 11 minutes before Zayyad Musa sealed the points in the 63rd minute of the encounter. Onuche Ogbelu scored a 90th-minute consolation for the Solid Miners as they suffered a second defeat of the season after their previous loss to Enyimba.
Shooting Stars and Kwara United played out their second draws of the campaign as they nullified each other at the Lekan Salami Stadium in Ibadan. Neither side could find the net and their match ended in a goalless draw.
