NPFL23 Super Six Day 4: Goals galore as Enyimba, Rivers Utd, Remo Stars all win

Bendel Insurance unbeaten run ended at 26 games

Enyimba picked up their second win of the NPFL23 Super Six as they trounced Sunshine Stars to go top of the mini-tournament heading into the final day. The People’s Elephant defeated the Akure Gunners 3-0 in dominant fashion, picking up the biggest win so far in Lagos. With the league’s goal king Chukwuemeka Obioma ruled out through illness, Chijioke Mbaoma stepped up and scored twice in the opening ten minutes to put Enyimba ahead. Ikenna Cooper scored the third in the second half from a free-kick to put the game to bed and hand the People’s Elephant maximum points.

Rivers United ended Bendel Insurance’s unbeaten run, handing them their first defeat of the season in 27 matches across all competitions. The reigning champions claimed a 2-1 win over the Benin Arsenal to pick up their second win of the NPFL23 Super Six in Lagos. Morice Chukwu opened the scoring for the Pride of Rivers in first half added time before Joseph Onoja came off the bench to score their second in the 89th minute. New Super Eagles invitee Divine Nwachukwu pulled one back for the Benin Arsenal in added time to take his tally to three in four games in the tournament.

Remo Stars did the business early against Lobi Stars, scoring twice in the first half to pick up a 2-0 win, their first of the NPFL23 Super Six. Handed their first starts of the tournament in a strike partnership, Junior Lokosa and Adams Olamilekan did the business for the Sky Blue Stars. Lokosa headed home a delicious cross from Sodiq Ismail to open the scoring after only 17 minutes before Olamilekan curled home a beauty nine minutes later to seal the points for the team from Ikenne.

After four rounds of matches, Enyimba sit atop the standings on eight points, the same tally as Rivers United, who have two less goals. Remo Stars are third on six points and Bendel Insurance fourth on three points. Lobi Stars and Sunshine Stars, both on two points, are bottom of the pile.
