NPFL24 Matchday Four: Remo Stars down Sporting Lagos in SW derby, Rabiu Ali rolls back the years in Kano

Remo Stars claimed a famous 2-1 win from behind against Southwest rivals Sporting Lagos in their NPFL24 Matchday Four meeting. Following a defeat to the Noisy Lagosians in the Naija Super 8, Remo Stars were out for revenge.
Sporting Lagos silenced the Ikenne crowd after only 21 minutes when Jonathan Alukwu latched onto a terrific through ball to finish smartly. The home side drew level late in the half as Togolese forward Franck Mawuena scored from a cross from Sodiq Ismail. Experienced striker Sikiru Alimi fired home the winner from the penalty spot in the second half to hand his side all three points and send them top of the standings.
Kano Pillars picked up a first win of the NPFL24 season against 10-man Rivers United at the Sani Abacha Stadium in Kano. Mercurial midfielder Rabiu Ali scored his first goal of the season with a fine strike from inside the box after the ball landed in his path in the 92nd minute.
Akwa United were held to a goalless draw at their new home, the Eket Township Stadium, by Shooting Stars. They drop to the bottom of the standings, as a result.
Lobi Stars claimed a 2-0 win over Abia Warriors to extend their unbeaten start to the NPFL24 season. Ahmadu Liman opened the scoring for Lobi Stars before former Kwara United star Alao Danbani added his name to the scoresheet in the first half, as well.
Kwara United were held to a 1-1 draw at home by Rangers in their Matchday Four meeting in Ilorin. Kazeem Ogunleye gave the Flying Antelopes the lead before Alao Muhammed equalised for Kwara United in the second half with a stunner.
Heartland and Katsina United played out a 1-1 draw in their NPFL24 Matchday Four clash in Owerri. Christian Nnaemeka opened the scoring for the home side before Michael Ibe scored a second half equaliser for the Changi Boys.
Plateau United picked up all three points against Sunshine Stars with a narrow 1-0 win in Jos. Albert Hillary scored the game’s only goal with a fine strike from range to give his side maximum points.
Gombe United ended Bendel Insurance’s unbeaten start to the NPFL24 season via a 1-0 success at the Pantami Stadium. Ahmed Jimoh’s lone strike was enough for the Savannah Scorpions at home.
Bala Yahuza scored the only goal of the game as Niger Tornadoes battled to a 1-0 win over Bayelsa United at home.
