NPFL24 Matchday Nine: Doma United go top as Remo Stars fall to Akwa United

Enyimba, Rivers United, Gombe United all win

Doma United reached the top of the NPFL24 standings after their 1-0 win over Plateau United on Matchday Nine. Andrew Majalisa scored the only goal of the game for the Savannah Tigers, who have now picked up 17 points this season.

Enyimba ended Lobi Stars’ unbeaten start to the NPFL24 season, claiming a late 1-0 win in Aba courtesy of a header from Somiari Alalibo on the 89th minute.

Rivers United claimed a hard-earned 2-1 win over Abia Warriors in their visit to Port Harcourt to return to winning ways. Alex Oyowah opened the scoring for the Pride of Rivers from the penalty spot before Ifeanyi Anaemena conceded an own goal to double the advantage. Anaemena turned around and scored from the penalty spot for his side’s consolation.

Gombe United edged Niger Tornadoes 1-0 at the Pantami Stadium in their NPFL24 Matchday Nine clash. Abba Umar scored the only goal of the game to give the Savannah Scorpions all three points.

Sporting Lagos played out a 1-1 draw at home to Heartland in their NPFL24 Matchday Nine encounter at the Mobolaji Johnson Arena. Chisom Orji scored an own goal to give the Naze Millionaires the lead before Jonathan Alukwu scored late in the match for his fifth goal of the season.

Bendel Insurance and Kwara United played out a 2-2 draw at the Samuel Ogbemudia Stadium in Benin. Kwara United went ahead through Sadeeq Yusuf before Stephen Sodje equalised for the Benin Arsenal. Godwin Oshagbemi restored the visitors’ lead before Ismael Sarki scored a late leveller.

Sunshine Stars held Bayelsa United to a 1-1 draw at the Samson Siasia Stadium in Yenagoa. John Bassey scored from the spot to open the scoring for the home side before Opeoluwa Olufemi scored late to steal a point.

Akwa United claimed a narrow 3-2 win over Remo Stars to pick up three points at the Eket Township Stadium. Sikiru Alimi scored his eighth goal of the season to open the scoring before Dare Ọjọ, Uche Collins and Rilwan Sadiq turned the game on its head. Aniekeme Ikon pulled one back for Remo Stars late in the game.

Shooting Stars picked up a 1-0 win over Kano Pillars in their NPFL24 Matchday Nine encounter in Ibadan. Kareem Ayinde came off the bench to secure the win for the Oluyole Warriors.

Rangers International played out a goalless draw with Katsina United at the Awka Township Stadium.
