NPFL25: Trouble for Nasarawa United as Club Banished to Gombe, Fined N6m Over Fans’ Attack

Nasarawa United are in serious trouble after being punished by the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) for crowd trouble during their matchday 33 clash against Plateau United.

The Lafia-based club has been banished to Gombe State for the rest of the 2024/2025 season and fined a total of N6 million for failing to control their fans, who attacked players and officials during the tense fixture.

According to a statement from the NPFL board, Nasarawa United breached several league rules:

  • They failed to provide proper security, which allowed unauthorised persons to enter restricted areas and harass Plateau United players and match officials.

  • Their supporters attacked Plateau United, causing disorder during the match.

  • A serious offence occurred when Plateau United player Vincent Temitope was physically assaulted by Nasarawa United fans, suffering grievous bodily harm.

As punishment:

  • Nasarawa United will now play their remaining home matches this season at the Pantami Stadium in Gombe.

  • They have been fined N2 million for poor security and failing to control their supporters.

  • An additional N3 million fine was imposed for repeated violation of NPFL rules.

  • The club must also pay N1 million to cover the medical expenses and compensation for Vincent Temitope.

The NPFL has also ordered the club to:

  • Submit a new security and crowd control plan before being allowed to return to the Lafia City Stadium in future seasons.

  • Identify the fan who attacked Temitope and show proof that legal action has been taken.

Nasarawa United have been given 48 hours to appeal the sanctions if they wish to challenge the decision.

This latest punishment raises serious concerns for the club, both on and off the pitch, as they now face the pressure of finishing the season away from home and under the watchful eye of league authorities.
