NRA 2023: The President Nigerian Referees want

Otunba Tade Azeez will bow out as President of the Nigeria (Football) Referees Association on Saturday April 29, 2023 same day election of new executives will be conducted. In this report, SPORTSRATION looks at the type of President Nigerian Referees want.

Current Deputy President Sani Zubairu and Secretary General Dr. Suleiman Omeiza are the leading contestants for the office of President at the elections scheduled to hold on Saturday April 29, 2023 in Illorin, Kwara State.

Elections into other executive committee positions will also be subject of choice by Chairmen and Secretaries of the 36-state Councils plus the FCT . Just as in every association, the key battle is for the office of President.

A PRESIDENT THAT WILL PRIOTIES THEIR WELFARE

One of the challenges faced by Nigerian Referees in recent years has been related to their welfare, SportsRation gathered.

As delegates gather in Illorin for the elections, the key consideration in the choice of Zubairu or Omeiza will be the one who has a clear vision with solution to the recurring welfare challenges of the NRA.

Despite being a hobby, the stress of training to stay fit for officiating engagements is one that bears huge financial and psychological effects on members of the Association.

The Insurance policy for Referees must be re-visited to ensure a happy landing for the retiring ones and packages in the event of losses in active service.

A PRESIDENT FOR ALL

The President is a father to every member of the Association and so delegates will root in choice for someone who will be open to every section of the country.

A detribalized leader whose actions and decisions will crown the Associations interest above personal and tribal sentiments.

AN EXPERIENCED HAND

The leadership of football arbiters in Nigeria is a tedious role and so should rest on the shoulder of an experienced hand. One who will not break down in the face of the obviously very complicating circumstances.

That President will be able to interact with key stakeholders in the sporting community and attract accompanying benefits to its members.

IN CONCLUSION

The choice now rests on the delegates when they cast votes on Saturday April 29. Because of the critical role played by Referees as judges of the beautiful game, Nigerians are watching with keen interest to see who will emerge as President of the Nigeria Referees Association.
