Despite concerns over a knee injury sustained in the round of 16 win over the Indomitable Lions of Cameroon, Stanley Nwabali has been is named as goalkeeper for the Super Eagles in their quarter-final clash against Angola.
Chippa United’s Nwabali was a doubt for Friday’s quarter-final fixture after the injury but has recovered and so retains his place in goal.
Nigeria head coach, Jose Peseiro has kept faith in the players who started the previous match, expecting them to deliver a positive result against Angola.
The Super Eagles will stick to the 3-4-3 formation, with William Troost-Ekong, Semi Ajayi, and Calvin Bassey forming the defensive shield in front of Nwabali. Ola Aina and Zaidu Sanusi will operate on the right and left flanks, respectively.
In the midfield, Alex Iwobi and Frank Onyeka will take charge, while the attacking trio will feature Victor Osimhen, Ademola Lookman, and Moses Simon.
The AFCON quarter-final match will take place at the Felix Houphouet-Boigny Stadium in Abidjan by 6 pm on Friday, Febuary 2, 2024. The Super Eagles will aim to secure a spot in the semi-finals of the prestigious AFCON tournament while the opposition have never reached the last-4 in the competition history.
