NWFL: Delta Queens win first title after win over tragedy struck Bayelsa Queens

Delta Queens were crowned champions of the 2022/2023 Nigeria Women’s Football League – NWFL after a win over tragedy struck Bayelsa Queens FC.

That was the final match of the NWFL Super Six playoffs in Asaba . Delta Queens FC came from a goal down to win 2-1 over Bayelsa Queens who were defending champions of the 2021/2022 season.

A perfect Delta Queens were victorious after they came back from a goal down at the Stephen Keshi Stadium.

Bayelsa Queens struck the opening goal in the 14th minute after Chisom Henry bundled the ball into her team’s own goal to put the Prosperity Ladies ahead.

Chinaza Agoh came off the bench to equalize for the Delta Queens in the 67th minute that was after the hosts missed a penalty kick.

To settle the contest, Chinaza Agoh scored the winner for Delta Queens FC to seal a 2-1 result and hand the home side the title, their first in 12-years.

As reward, Delta Queens have taken 10 million naira plus ticket as Nigeria’s representatives to the WAFU B CAF Women’s Champions League qualifiers.

For Bayelsa Queens, Sunday June 11 ended with even more tragedy thean losing the NWFL title as their one of the buses conveying members of their supporters club was involved in a auto-crash that claimed four lives.
