The official draw and complete guide for FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2017
The official draw for FIBA Women’s AfroBasket 2017 took place on Saturday night at Hotel Sofitel l’Amitie in Mali’s capital city of Bamako.
The results of the draw are as follows:
Group A: 1. Mali; 2.Cameroon; 3.Wild Card; 4.Tunisia; 5.Cote d’Ivoire and 6.Angola
Group B: 1. Senegal; 2.Nigeria; 3.Egypt; 4. Guinea; 5.Zone 4 and 6.Mozambique
The 12-team competition will take place from August 18-27 at the Palais des Sports Salamatou Maiga in Bamako. It serves as a qualifier for the FIBA Women’s Basketball World Cup 2018 in Spain.
The First-Phase will be played in a round-robin format, with every team taking on its five (5) opponents in its respective groups. The top four (4) teams from each group will advance to the Second-Phase.
The tournament will be played in a knockout format from the Quarter-Finals onwards (Semi-Finals and Finals).
The Third-Place Game and the Final will be played on the last day of the competition (Sunday, August 27).
Classification Games (9-12) will take place on Days 8 and 9, while Classification Games (5-8) will take place on Days 9 and 10.
The teams designated as “Zone 4” and Wild Card 1 to round out the event’s field will be known at a later date.
