The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Eric Chelle as the new head coach of the Super Eagles, SportsRation reports on Tuesday, January 7, 2025.
The NFF made the announcement in a statement on Tuesday. Chelle, 47, was recommended for the role by the NFF’s technical and development sub-committee on January 2. The federation’s executive committee approved the recommendation just hours before the official announcement.
Chelle previously managed the Mali national team during the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Côte d’Ivoire, where he led them to the quarter-finals before being knocked out by the hosts in extra time.
He has also coached several clubs, including GS Consolat, FC Martigues, Boulogne, and MC Oran.
As a player, Chelle earned five caps for the Malian senior national team and had stints with clubs like Martigues, Valenciennes, Lens, Istres, and Chamois Niortais in France.
