Official: Ndifreke Effiong rejoins Akwa United FC
Ex U-23 Eagles utility player Ndifreke Effiong has rejoined Akwa United FC after mutual termination of his contract with Libyan club Al Ahly Benghazi.
In his first spell with Akwa United FC, Ndifreke Effiong scored over 63 goals to attract interest from a host of clubs prominent amongst them Turkish Super Ligue side Antalyaspor and Al Ahly Benghazi where he eventually pitched tent in May 2021.
A fan favourite at Akwa United FC for his versatility and goal scoring prolificacy which laid the foundation for the clubs first ever Nigerian Professional Football League title in the 2021/2022.
Akwa United FC confirmed the return of Ndifreke Effiong in a post on the clubs Facebook page on Tuesday October 25 with the caption,
” The bulldozer is back…. expect more goals. ”
Ndifreke Effiong will wear the jersey number 10 at Akwa United Football Club for the 2022/2023 season as seen on his clubs customized training kit.
That number (10) was last used by club legend Akarandut Orok who recently retired from active football to take up a role as Assistant Coach at the club.
Back in a familiar territory, Ndifreke Effiong may get his first minutes of action when Akwa United FC face Rivers United FC in a Pre-season friendly game on Wednesday October 26, 2022 in Port Harcourt.

No date has been announced for the commencement of Nigeria’s top flight league at the time of this report but feelers from the recently inaugurated Interim Management Committee – IMC indicate a mooted November kick-off date.
