Official: Olivia Smith Becomes Most Expensive Player in Women’s Football

Olivia Smith has become the most expensive player in women’s football history after moving from Liverpool to Arsenal for €1.15 million.

The 20-year-old Canadian forward signed a four-year deal with Arsenal, which will keep her at the club until June 2029. She will wear the number 15 shirt.

This transfer breaks the previous record set by Chelsea, who paid about €950,000 to sign Naomi Girma from San Diego Wave.

From Sporting CP to Record Transfer

Smith joined Liverpool from Sporting CP in July 2024 for a then-club-record fee of €250,000. In her first season, she became Liverpool’s top scorer with seven goals.

Now, just one year later, her value has soared as Arsenal aim to strengthen their squad.

Smith: “It’s a Dream to Join Arsenal”

Speaking to Arsenal’s media, Smith said:

“It’s an honour to sign for Arsenal. It’s my dream to fight for big titles in England and Europe. The fans at the Emirates create such a great atmosphere — I’m excited to play for them now.”

Arsenal’s European Success

Arsenal are building on their recent success after winning their second European title last season, beating Barcelona in the final in Lisbon. Their first title came back in 2007.

With Smith now joining, fans hope she will help lead the team to more victories in the years to come.
