Ogunbote reveals Enyimba negotiation breakdown, hints at discussion with Rangers and other clubs
Gbenga Ogunbote reveals that a breakdown in negotiation with Enyimba saw him depart the former Nigeria Professional Football League champions.
Ogunbote joined the People’s Elephants from Shooting Stars before the commencement of the 2016-17 season and led them to a third place league finish, thus, securing a Caf Confederation Cup ticket.
But the coach elected to walk away from the former league champions after both parties failed to agree on terms of a new deal.
“I am not renewing my contract with Enyimba. I am free to discuss with any club .
“They desired to have me continue but they were unable to meet with the condition I set for them. I would like to continue working with my assistant coach, Abimbola Lawal because we have gone a long way together.
“I will also like to have my comfort too as a coach. I discussed all these with them but they are not disposed to approving them all. I have tried my best and I leave it to posterity to judge.
“I am in discussion with Enugu Rangers and other clubs and I am yet to agree on any team yet. I believe by this weekend there will be a clarification on where I will be going to.
“I have learnt some lessons from what transpired in the last few days and ahead of subsequent seasons, I hope to do things differently,” he concluded.
