Ola Aina to be rewarded for excellent performances
Nigerian footballer, Ola Aina is set to be rewarded for excellent performances in Nottingham FC colours this season. Sportsration reports.
Nottingham Forest is reportedly set to extend a contract offer to Super Eagles fullback Ola Aina, impressed by his performance in his debut season at the club, as per The Telegraph UK.
The 27-year-old, hailing from Cobham, joined the City Ground on a one-year deal last summer, with Forest holding the option to extend for another year—a clause they are now poised to activate.
Throughout the season, Aina has proven himself as a dependable player under both former manager Steve Cooper and current manager Nuno EspĂrito Santo, although he has featured sparingly under the latter, making just five appearances.
Aina has showcased versatility by playing at both fullback positions, emerging as a regular starter before his involvement in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations interrupted his run.
Following his return from international duty, Aina has faced challenges in securing significant minutes due to a lingering injury sustained during the tournament.
However, he recently marked his comeback in Forest’s Premier League clash against Crystal Palace and notably played 83 minutes in their 3-1 victory over Fulham, which featured fellow Nigerian players Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey.
Despite his injury setback, the London-born defender has managed 16 appearances across all competitions this season, contributing to the team with two goal involvements. With Forest recognizing his impact and potential, they are keen to secure his services for the foreseeable future with a contract extension offer on the horizon.
