Ole Gunnar Solskjær Targets Paul Onuachu for Beşiktaş Move
Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who has recently become the manager of Beşiktaş, is reportedly looking to bring Southampton’s Paul Onuachu to the Turkish club as his top transfer target.
The former Manchester United manager wants to strengthen Beşiktaş’s attack, and Onuachu’s height and physical presence make him an appealing option.
According to Turkish news outlet Sabah, Beşiktaş has been searching for a centre forward in the January transfer window, and Onuachu has become the preferred choice after their attempts to sign Sandro Kulenovic fell through. Beşiktaş’s President, Serdal Adalı, is said to support the move, and Solskjær has approved pursuing the 30-year-old forward.
Onuachu, who is 2.01 metres tall, has struggled to make an impact at Southampton since joining from Genk in 2023. Although he had a successful loan spell at Trabzonspor, scoring 17 goals and providing 4 assists in 25 matches, he has had limited opportunities at Southampton under manager Ivan Juric. This season, Onuachu has played just 362 minutes in 12 matches, without scoring or assisting a goal, making him eager for regular playing time elsewhere.
During his time at Trabzonspor, Onuachu became a fan favourite, scoring 15 goals and contributing 4 assists in 21 matches under manager Abdullah Avcı. His strong aerial ability and clinical finishing, including a goal nominated for the Puskás award, made him stand out.
Beşiktaş is considering signing Onuachu on loan, as Southampton reportedly asked for €10 million last summer. With his current situation at Southampton unlikely to improve, Onuachu is said to be open to returning to the Turkish Süper Lig.
Despite scoring the fewest goals among the top seven teams in the Turkish Super Lig, Beşiktaş is currently in sixth place, just one point behind the European spots.
