Olisa Ndah shines as Orlando Pirates win Nedbank Cup title

Nigeria defender Olisa Ndah played a key role as Orlando Pirates secured a dramatic 2-1 victory over Mamelodi Sundowns in the Nedbank Cup final at Mbombela Stadium on Saturday, June 1, 2024.

Orlando Pirates claimed the prestigious title for the 10th time in their history.

Themba Zwane opened the scoring for Sundowns in the 54th minute, tapping into an empty net after a brilliant setup by Lucas Ribeiro. However, the Buccaneers responded with determination.

Patrick Maswanganyi equalized for the Pirates from the penalty spot 11 minutes from time, setting the stage for a thrilling conclusion. Substitute Relebohile Mofokeng emerged as the hero for the Buccaneers, scoring the decisive goal in stoppage time to secure the victory.

Ndah, who was on the pitch for the entire 90 minutes, received a yellow card in the 49th minute but remained composed to help his team to victory.

The Buccaneers displayed immense character, coming from behind to claim a 2-1 win over Mamelodi Sundowns in what was an enthralling final. This victory allowed Orlando Pirates to successfully defend the South African FA Cup, adding to their impressive trophy cabinet this season.

In addition to their Nedbank Cup triumph, the Soweto giants also celebrated winning the MTN8 title earlier in the season, achieving a remarkable cup double.

Themba Zwane’s goal for Sundowns ended up as a mere consolation, as the Tshwane giants missed the chance to complete a treble in a season where they clinched the PSL and African Football League titles.
