Oliseh Predicts Major Exits as AFCON 2025 Reaches Quarter-Final Stage
Former Super Eagles captain Sunday Oliseh has predicted that some of Africa’s biggest football nations will be knocked out as the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations enters the quarter-final phase.
So far, the tournament has followed expectations, with no major shocks recorded. The last eight teams are all ranked among Africa’s top 10 sides according to the latest FIFA rankings, highlighting the high quality of the remaining contenders.
However, the quarter-final fixtures have set up heavyweight clashes, meaning several title favourites will be heading home early. Hosts Morocco face Cameroon, Nigeria will battle Algeria, Mali are drawn against Senegal, while Egypt take on Ivory Coast.
Oliseh shared his thoughts while reacting to a post on X by BBC Sport journalist John Bennett, who pointed out the absence of surprise results heading into the quarter-finals.
Quoting the post, Oliseh agreed and hinted that the calm would not last, writing: “Spot on. So far, no huge surprises yet! But this is where it ends!”
With the continent’s strongest teams set to face one another, the former Nigeria international believes the tournament is about to deliver its first major twists as the race for the trophy intensifies.
