Olympic games: Nigeria’s Super Falcons resume training for Brazil clash after one day rest

Two days after arriving in France, Nigeria’s Super Falcons are set to commence full training on Sunday in Bordeaux after a one-day break.

This training session is in preparation for their crucial first match against Brazil in the opening Group C clash of the 2024 Paris Olympics Women’s Football Tournament on Thursday.

The West African team landed in France early Thursday morning and received a warm welcome from Ms. Dorothy Akpama, Head of Chancery at the Nigerian Embassy in France, who represented the Ambassador. The team had a regeneration routine at their Hotel Mercure accommodation to recover from their journey.

Head coach Randy Waldrum granted the 18 players a rest day on Saturday to recover from two weeks of intense training in Seville, Spain, and the jet lag from their flight to Bordeaux.

The Super Falcons are making a comeback to the Olympics after a 16-year hiatus. They have been drawn into a challenging Group C, which includes Spain, making their Olympic debut; two-time Silver medalists Brazil; and London 2012 Silver medalists Japan.

As one of Africa’s top women’s football teams, the Super Falcons are determined to make a significant impact in the tournament. Their rigorous preparations and strategic rest periods indicate their readiness to compete at the highest level.
