Omoniwari heads Rivers United to top of NPFL
Aiyenugba keeps yet another clean sheet for Kwara United
Rivers United returned to the summit of the 2020/21 NPFL with a hard fought 1-0 victory over Adamawa United. Fortune Omoniwari scored a header at the second time of asking in the second half to secure the three points. It was his third goal of the campaign. Godwin Aguda earlier missed a penalty for Rivers United.
Enyimba moved into second place, level on points with first placed Rivers United. Tosin Omoyele scored his first goal for Enyimba in first half added time to secure the points in a 1-0 win over Katsina United. It was a redemption for Omoyele after he had missed a penalty in the game.
Sunshine Stars defeated visitors, Rangers International 3-1. Red-hot striker, Sadeeq Yusuf scored his 5th goal of the campaign for the Akure Gunners before Fuad Ekelojuoti added a second. Rangers pulled one back through Godspower Aniefiok, before Chinedu Udechukwu scored to seal the win for the home side. Both teams finished the game with ten men after a rush of blood to the head saw both Bright Akpojuvewho and Ifeanyi Nweke get sent off.
Dakkada FC won their first game in 4 attempts 2-0 against Warri Wolves. The Chosen Ones secured the win thanks to a brace from Aniekan Ekpe. His second goal came from the penalty spot.
Jigawa Golden Stars defeated Heartland 2-1 with a late flurry deciding the game. Heartland took the lead in the 82nd minute through Bright Onyedikachi before Saidu Abdullahi drew the hosts level. A late goal from Samuel Stone was the winner for Jigawa Golden Stars.
FC Ifeanyi Ubah eased some of their relegation fears with a 1-0 win at home to Wikki Tourists in the NPFL. A first half strike by Ifejiofor Uzochukwu was enough to decide the game.
Dele Aiyenugba kept his fourth clean sheet of the season for Kwara United as they held MFM to a goalless draw at the Soccer Temple in Agege. The 37 year old now has 4 clean sheets in 5 matches.
Lobi Stars played out a goalless draw against Abia Warriors. Abia Warriors are now undefeated in their past three NPFL fixtures with all ending in draws. Coach Amapakabo can now rest easy after he did not lose any of the three games in his ultimatum. They however remain winless in the league.
