Onazi Alleges Mikel Obi Used Influence to Block Some Super Eagles Players

Former Nigeria midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi, has alleged that former Super Eagles captain, Mikel John Obi, used his influence to prevent some players from being invited to the national team.
Onazi made the claim while speaking on the Home Turf podcast. He said Mikel was very powerful within the Super Eagles setup and could influence decisions about player selection.
According to Onazi, this influence led to some players missing out on national team call-ups. He mentioned Tony Nwakaeme as one of the players who was affected by the situation.
He said that although Mikel was his senior and someone he respected, there were actions he did not agree with. Onazi added that Mikel later admitted his involvement in Nwakaeme’s case.
He also revealed that Mikel apologised to Nwakaeme during a meeting at a restaurant in Istanbul. Onazi said this was just one of several similar incidents.
