Onome Ebi opens up about Olympic snub and respect for Super Falcons
Super Falcons of Nigeria defender Onome Ebi has addressed her exclusion from the team for the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The Super Falcons, under coach Randy Waldrum, failed to advance past the group stage, losing to Brazil, Spain, and Japan, while scoring only one goal.
Ebi, one of the team’s most experienced players, was notably left out of the squad. In response to her omission, Ebi has clarified her stance on social media, expressing respect for the coach and the management despite not being included.
Ebi’s Response to the Snub
On her social media, Ebi stated, “My posts are never 4 Super Falcons or the NFF . I respect D players & all management of the team.” She emphasized that her comments were not intended to criticize the team or the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), but rather to address misinformation and speculation.
She added: “Bloggers just find ways 2 put my name up 4 drag, which baffles me. Coach wanted younger players, and I respected that. I don’t go where I’m not needed.

Ebi explained that the decision to include younger players in the squad was respected, and she acknowledged the coach’s choice without complaint. She further warned against misleading narratives, asserting that her words have been twisted to create unnecessary controversy.
Looking Ahead
The Super Falcons will be looking to regroup and improve after their disappointing Olympic campaign. With Ebi’s experience and respect for the team’s management, the focus will be on building a stronger squad for future tournaments.
