Onuachu set to join French Ligue One Club on-loan from Southampton
Nigerian striker Paul Onuachu is set to join French Ligue One Club Metz on a season long loan from English Championship side Southampton FC.
Onuachu joined Southampton FC in January but has struggled to replicate the form that saw him paint the Belgium Pro League with goals.
The tall forward will now leave the Saints on loan for a fresh challenge in the French top flight with Metz who are currently placed 12th in the division after four matches.
At Metz, the 29-year-old will replace Georges Mikautadze, who departed for Eredivisie giants, Ajax this week.
Onuachu failed to register a goal in 12 appearances for Southampton FC a strange return for the prolific forward who prior to his move to England scored 85 goals in 134 appearances for Belgian club Genk.
Metz boss Laszio Bolöni will be thrilled with the addition of Onuachu to a side that has not been fluid in attack.
Both clubs have reached agreement and will now push to complete all paperworks before official announcement before the transfer window closes.
Onuachu had been linked with a move away from Southampton all summer with interest from German Bundesliga clubs and a return to Genk discussed.
Meanwhile, Onuachu’s international teammate Joe Aribo will stay with the St Mary’s outfit as they campaign in the English Championship.
