Onyeka swells Super Eagles Premier League contingent
Midfielder joins newly-promoted Brentford from Midtjylland
Super Eagles midfielder Frank Onyeka has signed a five-year deal with newly-promoted English Premier League side Brentford FC, completing a move from Danish giants FC Midtjylland following a five year spell at the club.
Onyeka becomes the first Brentford signing in their Premier League era after he finally joined for an undisclosed fee following weeks of speculation. The box-to-box midfielder appeared in over 120 matches for the Danish SuperLiga side since his switch from Ebedei FC in Nigeria, scoring 17 times. He won the Danish SuperLiga and Danish Cup titles with the club, also playing an integral role in their UEFA Champions League run in the 2020/21 season.
Onyeka made his Super Eagles debut in 2020 against Algeria in a friendly encounter. The midfielder has been hailed by Brentford boss Thomas Frank for his qualities on the football pitch, and the midfielder is expected to play an important role in The Bees’ first ever season in the English Premier League. He joins Emmanuel Dennis and Oghenekaro Etebo as the Premier League’s latest Super Eagles.
