Oriental derbies set to headline NPFL Matchday 24 as action comes in thick and fast

Matchday 24 of the 2020/21 NPFL season is set to take place on May 30th and 31st across different centres in the federation, with two important Oriental derbies lined up.

Enyimba welcome Heartland FC to the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba as they look to build on their win last time out and avenge their loss at the hands of this opponent in Matchday Four. The People’s Elephant need to win to keep in touch with the league’s leaders. The game will be televised live on NTA and the NPFL.tv app from 4 pm.

FC Ifeanyi Ubah will be hoping for a change in fortunes when they host Rangers International at the Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium in Nnewi. Their first meeting ended 2-1 to Rangers, and with FC Ifeanyi Ubah stuck in 19th place, the Flying Antelopes are once again favourites for the game, especially after their 3-0 thrashing of Jigawa Golden Stars last time out.

Nasarawa United host Adamawa United at the Lafia Township Stadium. The hosts will be looking to pick up a win that could get their season back on track after they faltered in recent matches. Adamawa United, meanwhile, needs to pick up more points as they aim to escape the drop.

MFM FC will welcome Dakkada FC to the Soccer Temple in Agege looking for another vital victory that would keep them safe from the relegation battles this season. Both sides played out a draw in the reverse fixture and will be looking to pick up maximum points this time around.

Plateau United host the league’s leaders Kano Pillars at the New Jos Stadium. Kano Pillars have amassed 7 points from their last 9 matches to reach the summit of the league and will be looking to build on that performance against a side they have defeated once this season already.

Akwa United will welcome fellow title hopefuls, Kwara United to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in what feels like a huge match for both sides who drew the first leg 1-1. The home side are winless in their last two games and have dropped into second place in the league.

Manager-less Sunshine Stars will travel to the Aper Aku Stadium to face Lobi Stars in a crunch match for the Akure Gunners who need a win to arrest their slump. They last tasted victory in the league in Matchday 7, and their coach Gbenga Ogunbote resigned from his post after their last result.

Katsina United welcome high-flying Warri Wolves to the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium. The Seasiders who are yet to lose under coach Ortega Deniran have clawed their way out of the relegation zone at the expense of their opponents, and this promises to be a six-pointer in the battle against relegation for both sides.

On Monday, Jigawa Golden Stars welcome Abia Warriors to the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna as both sides look to recover from disappointing results last time out. Jigawa Golden Stars were thrashed 3-0, and Abia Warriors were held to a goalless draw.

In the week’s final fixture, Rivers United welcome Wikki Tourists to the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium. The Pride of Rivers are firm favourites to win the game, having only dropped points at home once this season.
