Oriental derby day as Heartland, FC Ifeanyi Ubah lock horns in Nnewi
Enyimba-Nasarawa set to light up NPFL Matchday 28
Matchday 28 of the 2020/21 NPFL season kicked off on June 19th with Akwa United’s two-nil win over Adamawa United. The action continues on Sunday, June 20th in nine centres across the federation.
Ifeanyi Ubah Stadium will be agog for the latest Oriental derby between struggling FC Ifeanyi Ubah and Heartland FC. Both sides find themselves in unfavourable positions on the NPFL log and will be looking to pick up all three points from what promises to be an open game in Nnewi.
Enyimba FC will play host to high-flying Nasarawa United at the Enyimba International Stadium in Aba. Enyimba will be boosted by their win in their last game against Rangers, but third-placed Nasarawa United have shown that they are no pushovers in the NPFL.
Title-chasing Kano Pillars will play at home away from home when they face Jigawa Golden Stars at the Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna. Kano Pillars will look to close the four-point gap between them and the league’s leaders, Akwa United.
MFM FC will take on Wikki Tourists at the Soccer Temple in Agege in their NPFL Matchday 28 fixture. Wikki Tourists have lost their red-hot striker Stephen Gopey, who moved to Ukraine on a permanent deal, and must find a way to score the goals required to win them games without him.
Lobi Stars will welcome Kwara United to the Aper Aku Stadium in Makurdi. The Afonja Warriors are in fourth place in the league, and they know that an away win can prove to be vital at the end of the season. Having already beaten Lobi once this season, they will surely feel like they can pull it off again.
Sunshine Stars will play host to Abia Warriors at the Ondo State Sports Complex. Sunshine Stars have struggled in recent weeks and have only one win in their last twenty NPFL matches. Abia Warriors are unbeaten in six fixtures in the league and will believe they can pick up all three points from this clash.
Dakkada FC will welcome Rangers International to the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo. Rangers will be looking to bounce back from their midweek defeat to Enyimba and try to salvage what’s left of their season.
Plateau United and Warri Wolves will lock horns at the New Jos Stadium. Plateau United will be clearly looking to put their home advantage to good use and pick up all three points so that they can remain in the NPFL title chase this season.
Katsina United will pay a visit to Rivers United at the Adokiye Amiesimaka Stadium, where Rivers United are undefeated this season. The Changi Boys will be motivated by their massive win over Enyimba last time, and will feel like they may have a chance to defeat Rivers United in their fortress.
