Oshoala on fire, contributes four goals as FC Barcelona Femeni maul Benfica
Super Falcons star shows mettle in excellent win
Having missed most of last season’s UEFA Women’s Champions League through injury, FC Barcelona Femeni striker Asisat Oshoala marked her return in style as her side thrashed Benfica Women 9-0 in their opener. The experienced forward contributed to four goals for the Spanish champions in Barcelona.
Last season’s beaten finalists Barça were looking to stamp their authority early in this season’s edition of the competition. They were up against Portuguese outfit Benfica, which boasts of Super Falcons midfielder Christy Ucheibe.
Oshoala quickly involved herself in the play and set up captain Patri Guijarro to open the scoring for the home side inside the first minute of the encounter. The Nigerian star quickly doubled her assist tally by setting up Aitana Bonmati in the 14th minute as the Spanish side entered the ascendancy.
After two assists, Oshoala showed her excellent finishing in the 34th minute by firing a screamer into the top corner from outside the box to put her side three goals up.

Oshoala first goal
Oshoala’s strike partner Mariona Caldentey scored her side’s fourth goal in the 50th minute before Ana Crnogorcevic made it five in the 65th minute.
Geyse Ferreira made it six two minutes later before Claudia Pina added her name to the scoresheet for the Blaugrana in the 77th minute. Oshoala brought up her brace with a tap-in after Mariona Caldentey passed the ball to her in front of an open goal in the 83rd minute. Ferreira scored her second of the game in the 88th minute as Barcelona Femeni finished the game as 9-0 victors at the Estadi Johan Cruyff.
Super Falcons midfielder Ucheibe started the game on the bench and was introduced after 70 minutes of the encounter for the Portuguese outfit. Oshoala was the Player of the Match after her impressive efforts for the Spanish giants as she looks to show the world her quality after her Ballon d’Or snub.
