Osimhen emulates Ibrahimovic, achieves rare feat
Victor Osimhen has emulated iconic AC Milan striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic in his epoch-making 2022-23 season, achieving a feat which was last achieved by the Swede in 2009, 14 years ago.
Napoli talisman Osimhen played a starring role for the Partenopei as they claimed their first Serie A crown since the days of Diego Maradona in 1990 and was named as the league’s Best Striker of the Season.
His second achievement this season was becoming the first-ever African Capocannoniere in Serie A history after scoring 26 goals for the side in only 32 appearances this season. He became the first player since Ibrahimovic in 2009 to win the Scudetto and be named as the league’s top scorer.
Ibrahimovic scored 25 goals in the 2008-09 season as he propelled Inter Milan to the Scudetto and was named Capocannoniere, a feat that was not matched until Osimhen did it in 2022-23.
The Super Eagles striker has conquered all the peaks in Italian football and with 50 goals in only 83 appearances is Africa’s record scorer in the Serie A. The 24-year-old will consider his future this summer if a suitable offer arrives to leave the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.
