Osimhen Leads Early Arrivals as Super Eagles Begin World Cup Preparations
Nigeria’s Super Eagles have officially opened their training camp ahead of two important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying matches against Rwanda and Zimbabwe.
With Nigeria’s chances of qualifying hanging by a thread, the team has started serious preparations to turn things around.
As of Monday morning, six players had arrived at camp. Star striker Victor Osimhen is among the early arrivals, along with Olympiacos defender Bruno Onyemaechi and home-based midfielder Papa Mustapha. Goalkeepers Kayode Bankole and Amas Obasogie, as well as Belgium-based forward Tolu Arokodare, have also joined the squad.
More players are expected to arrive soon as the team gets ready for the must-win matches.
Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle is under pressure to improve the team’s poor start to the qualifiers. Nigeria has not won any of their four games so far, drawing three and losing one. They are currently in fifth place with just three points.
Only the top two teams in the group will qualify for the World Cup. Nigeria must win both games to keep their hopes alive.
The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has called on the players to show determination and strength in these crucial fixtures. Reports say coach Chelle has been focusing on tactics and finishing in training, as the team has wasted many chances in past matches.
The Super Eagles last played at the World Cup in 2018. Missing out on another tournament would be a big disappointment for Nigerian football fans.
With the whole nation watching, the players and coaching staff are working hard to bring hope back and fight for a place at the 2026 World Cup.
