Osimhen Missing as Chelle Names 24-Man Super Eagles Squad for Tanzania AFCON Qualifiers
Super Eagles head coach Éric Chelle has named a 24-man squad for Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Tanzania, with Victor Osimhen missing from the list.
Team captain Wilfred Ndidi leads the squad, which includes defenders Calvin Bassey and Semi Ajayi, midfielders Alex Iwobi and Fisayo Dele-Bashiru, as well as forwards Moses Simon, Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams.
Goalkeepers Stanley Nwabali, Francis Uzoho and Arthur Okonkwo are also included in the squad.
Other players called up include Ola Aina, Benjamin Fredricks, Bright Osayi-Samuel, Bruno Onyemaechi, Chibuike Nwaiwu, Abdullahi Bewene, Tochukwu Nnadi, Samson Tijani, Alhassan Yusuf and Mubarak Suleiman.
In attack, Taiwo Awoniyi, Tolu Arokodare and Moses Usor complete the list alongside the other invited forwards.
Nigeria will host Tanzania at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, November 13, before travelling to Zanzibar for the return fixture at the Amman Stadium on Tuesday, November 17.
The Super Eagles are currently second in Group L and need victories in both matches to strengthen their chances of qualifying for the 2027 AFCON.
The tournament will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda next summer, with only one qualifying ticket available from Group L.
