Osimhen yet to arrive Morocco for CAF Award ceremony
In a news that leaves many surprised and worried, Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen is yet to arrive in Morocco, five hours to the 2023 CAF award in Morocco.
Osimhen is frontrunner to be named 2023 CAF Men’s Player of the Year but his abscence has fuelled concerns whether he has been notified he will not be named winner of the prestigious awrd.
This thought are further backed by news that Egypt’s Mo Salah will not be attending the ceremony while home-boy, Achraf Hakimi is already in Marrackech for the event.
Hakimi is considered a top-contender and top Moroccan outlets are already trending stories he will win the award ahead of Nigeria’s Osimhen who is still expected in Marrakech as at the time of this report.
However, an Algerian journalist, Walid Daksi of Radio Algerie Internationale is quoted by Sports Village Square to have said that Victor Osimhen’s unavailability is due to Napoli’s unwilling stance to releasing him for the ceremony with eye on the UEFA Chmapions League clash vs Braga.
The report went on to quote a source close to Osimhen saying that the player will certainly make it to the event as he had informed he would fly to Marrakech Menara Airport in a chattered private jet and return immediately after the event.
The 2023 CAF Awards ceremony will begin by 7pm on Monday, December 11, in Morocco.
